Edited Photos

As there is a chance I'll be using photos as part of my final piece I practiced editing photos on a photo editer called Fotor . I used photos I took last week, and just played about with the features on the programme.

This one is my favorite. I think it looks really good. I like the contrast between the light and dark.

Its a bit less realistic, but it is lovely and vibrant in colour, and possibly more interesting to look at that the more realistic photos. 

I like the way this has turned out as well. I like the way the light highlights some of the edges of the cloud and I think if printed on to acetate it could look really good over a light.

This image looks totally different from the original. I like the blue to white contrasts in it, makes it look kind of happy.

I'm not so keen on this one. It looks sinister, which i like, but I don't particularly like the background.

I think this one is nice, and I like how it looks dark and moody, but I don't think the brightness of the back colour works with the dark clouds. It changes the tone of the picture a bit, but I'd prefer it to be more dramatic.

I'm going to continue to edit some of the photos I take, they do look better edited than as they are originally.

I tried a few different effects on this photo after cropping it just to see the looks I could achieve. 

I really like how they have all turned out, my favourite is the second one down. 

This one looks cool, its like the sun is getting eaten by the clouds. 

I tried a few different effects, and played around with the sharpness to see how I could make the pole stand out more. I think the last one looks most effective, I like the colours as well. 

                                      

I just played with the colour and contrast with this, and it looks like a better version of the original I think. 

Wolfgang Tillmans

There is a chance I will include photos in my final piece, so I felt I should research some relevant photographers. The most relevant piece of his work to my projects, is the set of jumbo jet photos he did. This covers 3 important elements of my project, the sky, a combination of several piece combining as one, and obviously the use of photography.

These pieces relate directly to my sky theme and I think there amazing.

He's also got a couple of pieces, that are similar to how I was thinking of displaying my final piece.  This one is my favourite:

I obviously won't have this much room, so my idea is much more compressed, and includes fewer individual pieces. 

George Rowlett

As I am attempting to create textures with paint I needed an artist I could look to, to see what works. Then I came across Rowlett. Although his subjects are exactly the same as mine I can apply a similar style to my work. 

I don't particularly like the work Rowlett produces, because I think there is too much information in the pieces. I don't think the excessive use of paint and the detail work together. But I do think this heavy use of paint can work for sky themed work, and could create an intreguing abstract look of clouds and the sun.

I found some videos on YouTube, demonstrating how Rowlett creates the effects he does. interesting fact he doesn't use a paint brush.

Gill Rocca

Richard recommended I look at the work of Gill Rocca, and hopefully I will be able to get into contact with her.

These are really nice pieces, I like how the clouds look 3D. If I can get into contact with her, I'll be able to ask her how she created that effect, and what techniques and materials she used. 

Easter Holiday Primary Research

I've took these photos on a camera instead of my phone, and the quality is about the same I would say. But the photos are still nice. These photos were all took at about 11:00 am and I love the colour of the sky in them. 

These first two photos are my favourite. I think they'll be a lot more useful when it comes to using light in my work as the sun is really dominant in one, and highlights the clouds in the other. Its just ashame there are trees in the photos.

Took more photos of the sky in the same area today. This time it was about 2:00pm and I used a different camera. This camera is only 5 mega pixels, but its got 10x optical zoom so I could get some cloud close ups. 

I think it will be interesting to try and mimic the sun in the photo to see if I can get the contrast between the sun and the blue in the sky . 

I think these photos will be more useful to paint from, whereas yesterdays work well as photographs. I think these would also look quite good as a collage. But as individual pieces they're a bit boring. Over the next week or so I'm going to do some experimenting as see if I can come up with effects that look similar to these photos. It will be useful for development.

These photos were taken at about 7:30pm in Manchester. There all a bit samey, but I think they have a different tone to photos I've taken before. They seem kind of miserable, and there a smaller range of contrast and colour in these. I still like them though.
