These are all really impressive paintings. But they don't look textured enough. I really like texture in work, and I think skies are a really good subject to be creative with. I want to create these looks by using thick paint and random materials, rather than being really delicate with brushes and colours.

Photos of the sky 05/03 - 17/03
All the photos on this post have been taken from my phone, which is strangely better than my camera. They are all took in Blackburn between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm between the 5th and 17th of March. Some are more successful than others, which I plan to print and put in my project sketchbook. And possibly print onto acetate and mount onto light boxes as part of my final piece.
The photos up until this point aren't particularly successful, as they were taking through a window in car. Although the photo quality is poor the patterns of the clouds looks really cool.
Again, I'm not keen on this set of photos, as there is a lot of other things going on in the photo and really I want as much sky as possible.
I really like these three photos. I like the colour of the sky in the first one, its got a very slight hint of purple in it, which is my favourite colour.
The second has like a parting between clouds, which would look really good as a print of a light and I like how the edges of the clouds are highlighted by the light of the sun.
The third one is mostly covered which I don't usually like. But in the photo it looks really sinister and creepy.
These photos are all a bit samey, but I'm going to try and mimic them with paint because they all look really textured and as before I like how the clouds are highlighted by the sun.
I honestly think this sky looks like a painting, by Constable or something. It would be an amazing photo if it was just the sky with nothing in front of it.
I love this photo, even with the houses in front I think it looks really cool especially were the sun it. It looks like its been shattered and left because of how the clouds have formed.
Apart from the first on these were all took on my street, and I think they are the best photos on this enter blog. I really want to use these in whatever way I can for my FMP. Whether it be using the actual photos or using them as inspiration for a painting.
I found a good website to refer to relating to sky photos:

David Hockney
To start preparing for FMP, I've borrowed a David Hockney book, I've done loads internet research on him but as part of FMP criteria we need a range of research sources, primary as well as secondary:
David Hockney
New Enlarged Edition
Marco Livingstone
Internet Research

I've become a big fan of Hockney since Richard showed me his work, and I am definitely going to look to him as an influence in colour. But for FMP, I want to do more abstract/photographic work.
Ideas
I've decided I want to carry on doing work with skies, as I think I've done far to much work towards it to just stop now.
1. My main idea for FMP is create a skyscape thats lit from behind, like a sun. and in front of it I want either an urban landscape or sillohuettes of some sort. However, I don't know how practical this would be to create. I'll definitely have to experiment with different paints and surfaces, to see what would allow light to show through.
2. Again, working with lights I was thinking of taking a few photos of the sky, blowing them up and then putting them over a light box, on the wall. However I have never attempted photography, so I have no idea if I'm any good at it.
3. I've had another idea! I'm thinking of painting about 5-8 square canvas', all of different thicknesses, and then arranging them on a wall in some sort of pattern. If I do this I can combine both abstract and sky pieces.
I saw something in the Harris really similar to what I'm thinking of doing. If I do this I can combine ideas 2 and 3. The piece is of a firework. Which has made me think, fireworks are in the sky, as are rainbows and the northern lights, so I could maybe do something on one of the canvas' relating to that.

The Launch
Today Jamie Launched our final major project with a presentation. FMP is the 3rd part of the course and its the bit we are graded on.There are 7 criteria that we need to pass. One of which is our work plan which we've been given today. Others are things like our blog and sketchbook.
The first main thing is our proposal, which is a combination of reviewing the 2 previous parts of the course and explaining our plans for our FMP.
The whole concept of FMP seems pretty complex right now but I'm sure it'll make more sense once I've got into it.
Things that make a good project:

Things that make a good project:
- Experimentation ( bravery )
- Must represent a personal passion
- Unique, in a way that relates to the concept
- Exhibits personal skills as much as possible
- Elements of past work
- Clear evidence of development and reflection
